Barnet is a commissioning council, working through partnerships and innovative operating models to deliver services and outcomes for the borough. The council’s vision is that, by 2020, services will be commissioned jointly for the borough – by pooling resources and expertise from across the council, NHS, Jobcentre, police, education providers and other partners from the public, private and voluntary sectors - to create truly integrated services. Barnet is also changing physically and the council is embracing this through growth and regeneration of the borough’s infrastructure.

To assist the council in delivering its vision, robust information management processes and procedures are required to ensure both compliance with legislation and provide support to the council’s activities. The purpose of the role is to work within the Commissioning Group to deliver co-ordinated and specialist advice, support and activities to the council on all areas of information management. The Information Management Team is the corporate, expert team for information management and relevant legislation.

Working with the Information Strategy Manager, the Information Management Officer will work within a team of IMO's to:

- Specialise in information management legislation, taking accountability for ensuring that the council complies with the law in relation to information legislation including Data Protection (DP), Freedom of Information (FOI) and Environmental Information Regulations (EIR). Act, with the Information Management Team, as the council’s main source of professional advice on information management matters.
- Drive forward the information management agenda and develop policies, procedures and initiatives to promote good governance and transparency across the council and ensure the council meets its statutory obligations.
- Lead on and oversee the council’s response to requests for information under the DP, FOI and EIR regimes.
