An excellent opportunity has arisen for a finance assistant to join a developing traded service to schools. The role involves visiting different schools and requires good interpersonal skills.

Role Summary
To provide support in the provision of a professional accountancy and financial service for schools and academies, by carrying out bookkeeping and related duties in schools.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, those listed below:

Bookkeeping - To provide a bookkeeping service -
• Maintenance and reconciliation of the accounts
• Validation and processing invoices
• Processing income
• Petty cash disbursements
• Cash flow monitoring
• Compliance with VAT regulations
• Completion of monthly returns posting summary and bank reconciliation
• Reconciliation of school accounts to the local authority accounts
• Deal with queries with suppliers, contractors and LA traded services
• Preparation of reports for the Headteacher and budget holders

Year End/New year procedures
• Assisting with completion of year end creditors, debtors, receipts and payments in advance
• Assisting with the preparation of year end returns and closing of accounts
• Setting up the new year budgets in the new financial year
• Producing reports for validation of budgets set up
Unofficial funds - maintenance of funds accounts to include
• Validating and processing invoices and income
• Completion of bank reconciliation
• Producing reports for and the Headteacher

Miscellaneous duties
• Temporary book-keeping service
• Dealing with queries from Schools Accountant
• Help in the office, assisting the manager, with data input, etc.
• Completion of mandatory and recommended training
• Completion of time and visit records

Requirements (Essential)
• A good communicator with customers and colleagues
• An attention to detail
• Ability to work independently
• A competent user of bookkeeping/accounting packages and Microsoft Office
• Working experience of bookkeeping/accounting
• Able to carry out bookkeeping procedures to produce accurate financial records
• A car owner/driver

Requirements (Desirable)
• A knowledge of accounting principles and practice
• Evidence of numeracy and written skills
• Able to explain financial matters to non-financial staff
• Able to prioritise tasks and work under time limits to deliver a service specification
• An accounting technician or studying an accounting qualification

Post holder will be required to undertake a DBS check.
